Splenda Sweet Swaps

The donut’s latest incarnation comes in a delicious waffle form: the Wonut. Laura Vitale, our friend and host of Laura in the Kitchen on YouTube, hopped on this trend and came up with her own recipe topped with a chocolate glaze made with SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener.

Chocolate-Glazed Wonut Recipe 

Servings Per Recipe: 6 

Serving Size: 1 wonut



½ cup all purpose flour

½ cup whole wheat flour 1 tablespoon SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener, Granulated

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon cinnamon

½ teaspoon baking soda

1 egg

¾ cup skim milk


1 ½ cups SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener, Granulated

¼ cup cornstarch

3 tablespoons cocoa powder

4 tablespoons water

1 teaspoon vanilla extract


1. Batter: Whisk together dry ingredients in a medium mixing bowl. In a separate bowl beat egg until frothy, then stir in milk. Combine wet and dry mixtures and stir until fully mixed.

2. Pour manufacturer recommended amount of batter onto hot waffle iron and cook until done. Cut immediately with 3-inch round biscuit cutter and set aside. Each wonut is approximately ¼ cup of batter.

3. Glaze: In a blender, blend 1 ½ cups SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener, Granulated, cornstarch, and cocoa powder until it is a fine powder. Transfer to a medium bowl and add water, and vanilla. Stir until fully mixed.

4. Coat the top of one-half of the wonut with one tablespoon of chocolate glaze. Let sit until glaze hardens and then serve.
